5 Common Lifestyle Habits That Can Cause Skin Damage - Andrew Mark

Picture
Almost everyone will be suffering from some kind of skin condition. Nowadays, skin conditions are very common. The most common one is acne. The increase in pollution is one of the major reasons for the increase in these skin conditions. But we can’t blame everything on pollution. People follow many lifestyle habits which result in skin damage.

Lifestyle Habits That Can Cause Skin Damage
People intentionally or unintentionally choose to follow some lifestyle habits which affect the skin. This blog post intends to make people understand how their habits will damage the skin permanently. Here are 5 common lifestyle habits that can cause skin damage:

  • Smoking
  • Not Using Sunscreen
  • Improper Face Washing
  • Going Ham on Sugar
  • Picking Acne

Smoking
Smoking is generally bad for health. As we all know, smoking causes cancer. But it doesn’t stop with cancer alone. It can cause multiple health hazards. The thing is, smoking doesn’t have any kind of benefits. People who smoke are doing it only because of addiction.

A smoker's skin will not heal properly when wounded. Nicotine will damage the skin by reducing the blood flow to the skin. It also damages collagen and elastin. If you are a smoker, consider quitting.

Not Using Sunscreen
Prolonged sun exposure is one of the primary reasons for getting skin conditions like acne. While the idea of being exposed to the sun feels nice, it is not always good for your skin health. Some people apply sunscreen only when they go out on beaches, but it is good to apply sunscreen even on normal days.

When using sunscreens, see if it has at least an SPF of 30. Always use sunscreens that has over 30 SPF. Discuss with your skin care provider to know which sunscreen will suit your skin.

Improper Face Washing
Yes, washing your face can impact your skin health. Washing your face is not wrong, but over-washing or under-washing may have some unwarranted outcomes. People sometimes wash their faces whenever they can in a day. They feel that washing their face more often is good. But in reality, washing your face more than twice is not good. Washing your face more will result in damaging the skin.

Washing the face multiple times will make the skin dry. To repair, the skin will produce excessive sebum, which will clog the pore and will result in acne. So, be sure not to wash your face too often. Washing your face less than twice is also bad since the face will remain oily.

Going Ham on Sugar
Let’s be honest; we all love sugar. Sugar makes everything better other than our skin. And also diabetes. While sugar tastes good, it is not advisable to intake too much sugar. Sugar is the primary reason for many health conditions. In addition, it can also damage your skin. You can eat sugar, but if you want to protect your skin, eat some vegetables too.

Picking Acne
Acne is a very common skin condition. Many people have it all around the world. Most people try to pick acne. They treat it too harshly. Acne shouldn’t be picked or poked. It should be gently treated. If you pick acne, it can result in acne scars. Acne scars will not heal completely. Nevertheless, cities like Chennai face heavy heat in the summer, so cover your face or apply sunscreen before going outside. If you have a severe condition, you should consult with a skin specialist in Chennai or anywhere near you instead of picking it.

Wrapping Up
If you have skin conditions, do not panic. You are not alone. Skin conditions are very normal, and mostly it is not fatal. Try to follow the above tips to protect yourself from skin conditions. If you do get it, consult a skin doctor.
